Square Enix and Disney Interactive’s KINGDOM HEARTS CHAIN OF MEMORIES to Ship Nationwide Today

New Role-Playing Game for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance System Hits Shelves Just in Time for the Holidays
LOS ANGELES (December 7, 2004) — Square Enix, Inc., the publisher of Square Enix™ interactive entertainment products in North America, and Disney Interactive, a publishing label of Buena Vista Games, Inc., ships KINGDOM HEARTS CHAIN OF MEMORIES to retailers nationwide today. An action role-playing game exclusively for the NintendoR Game Boy® Advance system, KINGDOM HEARTS CHAIN OF MEMORIES continues the collaboration between Square Enix and Disney Interactive. The marriage of characters and worlds both familiar and new adds another dimension to the KINGDOM HEARTS series, bringing it to life with breakthrough content crafted in the renowned Square Enix style.

KINGDOM HEARTS CHAIN OF MEMORIES has received accolades from the enthusiast press and is a highly anticipated title for the holiday season:

“Square Enix’s GBA-exclusive sequel to 2002’s Disney-characters-meet-Final Fantasy hit is a vibrantly colorful adventure that tells a complex story using intriguing visuals and excellent dialogue.” - Nintendo Power (January 2005)

“Hard to forget: Chain of Memories proves Square Enix is the reigning king of GBA RPGs.” - GMR Magazine (December 2004)

“The graphics in the game are looking sharp and rank among some of the best we've seen on the GBA. Sora and the gang are brought to life via large, detailed sprites that animate well. Everyone from the Square and Disney stables is easily recognizable, and everyone has modest flourishes of animation to give him or her personality." - GameSpot (October 2004)

"Although it does incorporate a few elements and players from the show, it's essentially an all-new story with fresh supporting characters and locations. Despite this originality, the game is still extremely faithful to its source material and is easily the most appealing aspect of the experience." ~ IGN.com (January 2005)

Bridging the gap between KINGDOM HEARTS and KINGDOM HEARTS II, KINGDOM HEARTS CHAIN OF MEMORIES begins where the original left off. As Sora, Donald, and Goofy continue their journey in search of Riku and the king of Disney Castle, they are guided to the mysterious Castle Oblivion by a robed man who leaves Sora with a riddle: “Ahead lies something you need?but to claim it, you must lose something dear.”

With features never before seen on the Game Boy Advance, KINGDOM HEARTS CHAIN OF MEMORIES promises to deliver an unsurpassed gaming experience. Highlights include high-quality movie event sequences and a new card-based battle system. This intuitive system allows players to choose from various cards, each with an attack, ability, or other effect assigned to it. By “stocking” multiple cards, players can amplify their power and unleash powerful combos, cast formidable magic, and create unique battle strategies. Some cards allow Sora to summon familiar characters from the original KINGDOM HEARTS to his side during battle. Cards are also the key to opening doors and traveling between worlds, as well as unlocking the intricate mysteries of Castle Oblivion.

Marketing and Advertising Support

The launch of KINGDOM HEARTS CHAIN OF MEMORIES is supported by a multi-million dollar marketing campaign, which includes advertisements across broadcast, print and online media. Television spots will run on target network and cable programming such as Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, WB Kids, FOX Box, ABC Family and G4techTV, beginning December 6 and continuing to mid-January. The combined print and online advertising campaigns will reach millions of gamers over a course of three months, from November through January. In addition, KINGDOM HEARTS CHAIN OF MEMORIES is being featured in Disney Channel’s “Secret Lab” segment from mid-November through December and was also showcased at the Walt Disney World theme park during October as part of “Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party”. Theme park guests had the opportunity to demo the game and take pictures with costumed characters Sora, Donald and Goofy.

The KINGDOM HEARTS® CHAIN OF MEMORIES Official Strategy Guide from BradyGames’ is the one resource players need to help Sora successfully battle through all the floors of Castle Oblivion. The game-tested deck construction tips will help players take down every boss in the game. Expert tactics and strategy guide gamers through every maze-like floor in the castle. For those seeking to fill out their card collection, the guide includes a complete card list and cool card combos. As part of BradyGames’ Signature Series, this guide also contains an exclusive foldout poster featuring a complete listing of map cards and sample maps. The strategy guide is available at electronics, book and software retailers or online at www.bradygames.com for $15.99 US/$22.99 CAN.

KINGDOM HEARTS CHAIN OF MEMORIES will be released only for the Game Boy Advance. The game carries a suggested retail price of U.S. $34.99. Success of First Stateside FINAL FANTASY Orchestral Performance Generates Tour Celebrating Video Game Music
LOS ANGELES (December 14, 2004) — Square Enix, Inc., the publisher of Square Enix™ interactive entertainment products in North America, announced today that a FINAL FANTASY® symphony concert series will kick off on Saturday, February 19, 2005, at the Rosemont Theatre in Rosemont, IL. “After the fantastic support received at the first concert in Los Angeles, I am thrilled and honored to extend the experience to Chicago,” said series composer Nobuo Uematsu. “I’m looking forward to sharing the moments with those who love the music and games of FINAL FANTASY.”

“The first FINAL FANTASY concert in the U.S. brought fans from far and wide together in Los Angeles to share in an unforgettable musical experience,” said Ichiro Otobe, president and COO of Square Enix, Inc. “We are pleased to announce that, due to the overwhelmingly positive response, a North American tour will soon bring the emotionally moving and powerful scores to fans across the country.”

Building upon the success of the 2002 FINAL FANTASY concert held in Japan, Square Enix announced a six-city, seven-show tour of Japan titled “ Tour de Japon - Music from FINAL FANTASY-,” for 2004. The first stateside concert, “Dear Friends -Music from FINAL FANTASY-,” followed on May 10, 2004 at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, CA and sold out in three days. It featured music from Square Enix’s world-renowned FINAL FANTASY video game series, performed by the acclaimed Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Los Angeles Master Chorale. The positive reception of this performance gave rise to the U.S. concert series beginning next year.

Video game music has grown increasingly popular in the last few years. With the technology available in today’s gaming consoles, video game music has moved beyond the stereotypical blips and bleeps of its predecessors and become far more sophisticated. Music plays an integral role in today’s games, enhancing players’ overall experience. While still a growing market, video game soundtracks are now sold in major outlets and include a variety of genres such as rock, hip-hop, electronica, classical compositions, and songs performed by popular artists. The FINAL FANTASY soundtracks, which are original compositions, have grown so popular that Time magazine named series composer Nobuo Uematsu a notable “Innovator” in its recent “Time 100: The Next Wave - Music” feature. Square Enix hopes to pioneer awareness and appreciation of not only its own musical creations, but also video game music throughout the industry.

Square Enix Ships FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST and the Broken Angel to Retailers January 18, 2005

Action RPG Traces Journey of Two Brothers on Life-Changing Quest for the PlayStation®2 Computer Entertainment System
LOS ANGELES (December 27, 2004) — Square Enix, Inc., the publisher of Square Enix™ interactive entertainment products in North America, announced today that FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST™ and the Broken Angel (FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST) will ship to retailers nationwide on January 18, 2005. The action role-playing game will be exclusively for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system. FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST expands the story in the anime series which airs on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim programming. The tale follows the adventures of brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric on their quest to make right the mistakes of their past.

“The early success of the anime series on Cartoon Network shows the great amount of potential the Fullmetal Alchemist franchise holds in the U.S. market,” said Ichiro Otobe, president and COO of Square Enix, Inc. “We anticipate that American players will find the game to be as addicting as the Japanese fans have found it. The Fullmetal Alchemist franchise, which encompasses comic books, a novel, TV animation, and games, has enjoyed a phenomenal amount of success in Japan.”

In a forbidden act of alchemy, Edward and Alphonse tried to raise their mother from the dead and lost their left leg and entire body, respectively. Immediately after the accident, Ed sacrificed his right arm to save Alphonse's soul and transplanted him into a suit of armor. The action begins as the two brothers head towards Central City in search of the "Philosopher's Stone," the only object that can return them to their natural states.

Based on the wildly popular anime and manga series in Japan, FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST has made its way to America, beginning with episodic programming on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. The series spans 51 episodes in a story that ranges from tear-jerking drama to hilarious comedy. The anime series has been extremely well received by fans and media alike with a DVD release set for 2005.

FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST for the PlayStation 2 expands the tale in the anime series and is accompanied by fast-paced gameplay in which players can “ alchemize” objects for use in battle. The story takes place in a lost chapter from the anime series during the Elric brothers’ journey to Central. With animated cut scenes and in-game graphics that are the same quality as the TV series, the game ties in seamlessly with its anime counterpart. The key to gameplay depends on how well the player utilizes the versatile battle system. Over 50 transmutable objects ranging from trees to trash cans litter the landscape, allowing the practice of alchemy to have unlimited potential. In addition to controlling Ed, players can also equip the sub-character Alphonse and call him to aid during heated battles.

FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST™ and the Broken Angel has a suggested retail price of U.S. $39.99 and is rated "T" (Teen).
