SQUARE ENIX FILES IP INFRINGEMENT SUIT AGAINST FRENCH COMPANY

PARIS, FRANCE (July 2, 2009) — Square Enix Holdings Co., Ltd. and Square Enix Co., Ltd. (collectively “Square Enix”), announced today that they had filed, on May 28, 2009 (French local time), a lawsuit in the Tribunal de Grande Instance de Paris against la société SAKURA (“SAKURA”), a Paris-based company specializing in the importation/distribution of merchandise based on Japanese-produced content. Square Enix denounces SAKURA for the commercialization of products counterfeiting Square Enix’s FINAL FANTASY® and FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST® trademarks and copyrights to the FINAL FANTASY series.

The defendant SAKURA sells its products at a retail location going under the tradename of “KONCI” in Paris as well as via its Internet site, which Square Enix suspects of marketing pirated products all over the EU territory. In this lawsuit, Square Enix is seeking an injunction against the importation and distribution of pirated products, and compensation for potential damages arising from SAKURA’s activities. The case is currently pending.

“We are actively pursuing those who commit intellectual property infringement against our company,” said Yasuhiko Hasegawa, Square Enix’s General Counsel. “In parallel with our campaign against the manufacturing, distribution and sale of counterfeits, we will continue to aggressively exercise our intellectual property rights, including the filing of lawsuits, to prevent any infringement of our rights involving the unauthorized use of our games, music, movies, images, and other elements protected by intellectual property law.”

While Square Enix will continue to take decisive action against infringement of its intellectual property rights, Square Enix will keep bringing its official merchandise to its fans in the European market. FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES: MY LIFE AS A DARKLORD AVAILABLE TODAY

Players Take on the Villain’s Role in the Latest FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES Adventure for Nintendo’s WiiWare Service
LOS ANGELES (July 20, 2009) — Square Enix, Inc., the publisher of Square Enix® interactive entertainment products in North America, announced today that FINAL FANTASY® CRYSTAL CHRONICLES®: My Life as a Darklord™ is now available through Nintendo’s WiiWare™ service.

A follow-up to the kingdom-building simulation FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES: My Life as a King®, this newest entry in the FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES franchise invites players to switch teams for a view from the villain’s perspective.

FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES: My Life as a Darklord is a real-time strategy game that offers an all-new tower-style stage structure. As the newly appointed Darklord on a mission to take over the world, players must strategically place monsters and traps in their tower to ward off invading adventurers. The dynamic build-or-be-destroyed gameplay coupled with accessible controls makes this an engrossing experience for gamers of all ages.

Downloadable Add-on Content
While the complete experience can be enjoyed for 1,000 Wii Points™, add-on content is also available for download.

Title Price
(Wii Points)
Content
Darklord Army 400
Block Required: 2
A pack of five items each usable once per battle, including four spells (Shockwave, Blast Arrow, Fira and Quake) that deal moderate elemental damage to adventurers on all floors and one (Cura) that restores moderate HP to all monsters and Artifacts. With these tools in your kit, even the toughest stage is within your grasp.

Vile Ribbon

200
Blocks Required: 1
Raises your NP by 50 at the start of battle. The effect is permanent with a single purchase. The more accessories you equip, the more NP you'll start with (and the prettier Mira will be). This ribbon was cherished by a world-famous actress who disappeared without a trace one day. Anyone who wears it is said to invite destruction upon herself.

STORY
Step into the deadly-yet-fashionable shoes of the Darklord, a malevolent miss charged with dispatching intruding do-gooders by strategically placing traps and monsters within the tower she calls home. Players will need to get their hands on increasingly diabolical traps and abominable monsters to stop those pesky adventurers from making it to the Dark Crystal at the top of the tower. Be warned, though – with heroes of all the tribes and jobs from the FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES series storming the Darklord’s lair in real time, traps and minions will count for nothing unless deployed with true evil genius. Anything less and the Darklord’s beloved home will be reduced to rubble!

FEATURES

  • Enhanced presentation: Familiar settings and characters from the
